Lagosians spend over N1bn on parties monthly –Govt

Lagos State Government says residents of the state spend over N1bn on parties and entertainment every month.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ademorin Kuye, said this on Thursday at the briefing of the ministry in Alausa, Ikeja.

He said the benefits of entertainment industry had not been fully utilised in Lagos and the country, adding that taxes that should accrue to the government were spent on social gatherings.

“There is merriment tax in the constitution; it’s part of the rate local governments can collect. We have not utilised the benefit of the entertainment industry in this state.

“Over N1bn is spent monthly in Lagos State on entertainment. We have the records to confirm this and these people, how many of them pay taxes? The money goes into drinks, wine, food and aso-ebi and nobody wants to pay anything to the government.”

Kuye said those clamoring for autonomy for local governments were not sincere but were only pushing for it to score political points.

Pres. Jonathan declares state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe

President Jonathan has declared an indefinite state of emergency in three Northern states, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, citing insecurity. He made the announcement in a nationwide live broadcast this evening. With this declaration, the president has given the military the authority to take over the security of the states, though all political office holders in the states would still continue in office.

President Jonathan said the efforts at dialogue with militants will continue but will take extra ordinary measures to maintain peace. He immediately ordered troops to be deployed to the states to arrest and detain suspected terrorists, take over of suspicious buildings, and detain persons suspected to be in possession of arms. On terrorism, he said:
"We will hunt them down, fish them out and bring them to justice. No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terror"
This action is so long overdue. Just wondering why Nassarawa wasn't included.

Camilla Mberekpe explains how she was delivered by T.B Joshua

Well, it wasn't really her talking, an associate of the actress explained the situation on her behalf. On Sunday April 28th, the actress appeared on T.B Joshua's televised deliverance programme on Emmanuel TV, but contrary to earlier reports that she confessed to being a witch, her associate says she never did. She went for deliverance because she felt that an evil force was making life difficult for her. Her associate explains:
"Camilla never confessed to being a witch. There was an evil spirit that possessed her and it was the evil spirit that spoke through her. That does not make her a witch. You all should go spiritual and see all the things that go on around you. She took herself to church. Witches don't take themselves to church for deliverance. Witches don't operate that way. The evil spirit said, not Camilla said, so please let's understand this before we start calling her a witch.
Camilla returned to the church (bottom photo on the right) the following week to say she has been delivered 'from every bondage of Satan in her life' and her visit to the church had totally tranformed her life.
