Sanusi’s call for mass sacking irresponsible – Reps, lawyer

CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
An Ibadan-based legal luminary, Chief Kunle Kalejaye (SAN), has described the call by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, for the sacking of 50 per cent of federal civil servants as an irresponsible recommendation.
Also, member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency, Edo State, Mr. Peter Akpattason, also carpeted Sanusi for his call.
Kalejaye spoke on Friday at the inauguration of his Clementina Event Centre, Basorun, Ibadan.
Kalejaye said the sacking of federal civil servants would not solve the present economic downturn in the country.
He said, “Sanusi is a nuisance which this nation does not need.”
He noted that the CBN governor had not contributed meaningfully to the development of the economy.
He said “There are millions of Nigerians whose only source of livelihood is that they have a relation working in the federal civil service. Imagine, if you sack 50 per cent of federal civil servants, you are not only sacking those 50 per cent, you are probably sacking times ten of that number.
“Sacking people because the economy is bad is not the solution. What is he doing as the governor of the Central Bank to help the economy? The problem is that we are surrounded by many big boys, if not Sanusi should not last another 24 hours on that job.”
On the criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan by his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, regarding the handling of the Boko Haram menace, Kalejaye said the Federal Government was unwilling to adopt military option.
Akpattason, a former President of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Peter also faulted Sanusi’s call for the setting up of a committee to determine an acceptable oil benchmark for the country’s budget, saying the latter’s tenure had been a failure.
He spoke on Saturday at the 40th National Conference of Brothers Across Nigeria held in Benin.
