The Ebonyi State actress, Grace Amah, for over a decade, has been as constant as a “northern star” in Nollywood. Since she first appeared in the1999 Lancelot Imasuen-directed flick, Chain, she has been dazzling fans and remains very much in demand. Echoes of her acting prowess from the hit TV drama series Superstory still reverberates. After a brief break due to childbirth, she is back to thrill her numerous fans. But the mother of one has disclosed that her only regret is being a single mother.

’’I’m not struggling with anybody. I am Grace Amah; what I can do, I can do, what they can do, they can do as well. We’ve got different things we have to, what we put on ground. My coming back into the industry by God’s grace will not be a problem, and I’m not going to find it difficult, because I know I’m going to come back. In fact, I have fully bounced back for good. And with time, everyone would surely see that Grace is back. The only issue is my baby who is already closing to two years now but my loving mother can always take care of him for me whenever I need to be out of town for shooting,’’ the beautiful but diminutive actress said.

Angry Nigerian woman calls police and says husband is going to blow up plane after pair had a fight

A Nigerian man was grabbed by police at Newark Airport on Saturday after police were tipped off that he planned to 'blow up' a Delta Airlines flight to Paris.

But authorities now believe that the information, that came from the suspect's wife, was a false accusation following nothing more than a domestic dispute.

The New York Post reports that Eunice Ukaegbu, 50, rang police on Okieze Ukaegbu, 58, because the couple had just had a big fight and she didn’t want him to leave the country without her.

Eunice (pictured above) told the Post that she just thought she was just acting on her civic duty. 'He told me he was going to blow up the airplane. I did what an honest citizen would do,' she said.

The NJ nurse claims her husband 'is a little secretive.' Her story is that she first became concerned as Okieze had been acting distantly.

When she couldn't open his suitcase, Eunice felt she had to warn authorities. Police and federal agents rushed to the Ukaegbu family home in Union, New Jersey, to question the possible 'terrorist.'

Luckily for Okieze, the couple's daughter overheard the incident and rang her father to tell him that police were on the way to apprehend him at Newark Airport.

Okieze had already passed through security and was waiting for a Delta flight to Paris, the first leg of his trip to Nigeria.

He remained at Gate B45 until authorities arrived, then calmly told them that his wife was lying and had an 'alcohol problem.'

Police took Okieze in for questioning, pulled his luggage off the plane and checked it with bomb detection dogs.

This caused the man to miss his flight but sources at the Post claim other travelers did not experience significant delay.

After interrogation and searches, Okieze was released and cleared to take a later Delta service to Paris.

While his wife claims she contacted police out of genuine concern, they don't believe her story. Authorities now say they plan to charge Eunice Ukaegbu.

'It looks like that marriage went up in flames,' a police source told the Post.

BISI IBIDAPO-OBE’S BABY CHRITENING FALL OUT: CELE PROPHET IN TROUBLE WITH CELESTIAL AUTHOURITY

The baby christening of Bisi Ibidapo Obe might have come and gone but the echoes of the event still remain. One of the echoes is the Celestial prophet who came to the house to christen the baby as the apex body of the church says it’s unconstitutional to name a baby at home according to their doctrine and the precedent left by the founder of the church.

‘’Even Jesus Christ who is the foundation of the church was brought to the temple to be christened in Luke 2 verse 21-40, so, to name a baby in the house without bringing such baby to be presented before God in the temple is not in line with the church doctrine. Besides, the situation of Bisi was not a critical one for her not to have brought the baby to the church for proper naming,’’ one of the top elders told us.

I'm Not Suffering From AIDS--Ailing Actress Speaks

Ngozi Nwosu is dying. She has lost it all; weight, strength and vigour but not her talent and deep sense of humour which she displayed during the over one and a half hours we spent together recently. Her emotions ranged from profound despair to occasional outbursts of laughter at her own jokes.

When I got a call from the organisers of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' to come play in the special 'Celebrity Edition' last week, I did not know it was the cause of our Dear Ngozi i will be playing for until I got there. The director revealed this to me few minutes before recording began as Ngozi sauntered in.

One of the first signs that things were no longer right with Ngozi was the fact that we had to delay recording because while everybody else was virtually fanning themselves due to the studio lights, Ngozi was shivering from cold so much that the producers had to get her cardigans. I was flustered.

When the programme eventually got underway, Ngozi still helped to answer some questions. She summoned every ounce of strength in her body to look good for the cameras. Then, it occurred to me that she might be withering, with life slowly ebbing away from her before
our very eyes, that acting talent is still intact.

As we made our way out of the studio after the recording, she turned to me, despair etched on her brows as her eyes glistened with tears, and said, "Seun, do you know I was here (WWTBAM) few years back to play this game for Samanja and I didn’t know that I will be here years later for people to play for me to survive. See life," she burst into tears.

I fought back tears myself. I had never been so close to crying in a long while but Ngozi’s story will break the steeliest of hearts.

Moments later, we sat down to talk in the ante-room of the studio. Her nurse told me that despite the fact that she has lost half her original weight, she was better than three months back when she could not even get up from bed in her Surulere, Lagos apartment. Thanks to God and medical attention, she is willing to give living again a chance by fighting," the nurse said.

When we probed further on what exactly her ailment is, Ngozi wouldn’t say but instead invited me to her home. Last Sunday, I was Ngozi’s guest, where she showed me results of tests stating that she had kidney and heart-related issues.

I spent hours in her house as she led me by the hand through the whole gamut of her illness. She told me she decided to divulge everything because of widespread speculation that she was HIV positive. "I don’t have AIDS o," she declared.

The bottom line now is that Ngozi needs N6m to treat herself abroad. And she needs it fast. Ngozi is willing to live longer but we have to support her.

BON has therefore decided to collaborate with well-meaning Nigerians to save this celebrated thespian who brought laughter to many homes especially as the cantankerous peaceful Peace in popular sitcom, 'Fuji House of Commotion'.

You can send your widow’s mite to Ngozi Nwosu GTB 0052851673. May God bless you and all that you take important as we rally round to save beautiful actress

Imo Govt. Offers Cash Reward For Nkiru Sylvanus' Whereabouts

Three days after the kidnap of the Special Assistant on public matters to Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo State, Nkiru Sylvanus, the government of the state has finally responded to the kidnap of the governor's aide.

In a statement released through the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor, the state government announced a substantial reward to anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of the abducted actress.

“The Government of Imo State is aware of the kidnap of the Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Nkiru Sylvanus. All security agencies in the state are doing everything possible to get her back safely.

“The kidnappers have made contact with certain government officials. Government will offer a substantial reward to anyone with useful information about her whereabouts"
the statement reads.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded that a ransom of N100million be paid to them before Nkiru could be released. She was abducted on Sunday morning few days after the release of Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala's mother, Prof Okonjo.

Oil Marketers Behind My Mum's Kidnap--Okonjo-Iweala Reveals

If there was a recent kidnap case that shook the President of Nigeria, it would definitely be the kidnapping of the mother of Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Prof Okonjo, last week Sunday. Her eventual release came five days later.

Before the aged woman regained her freedom, a ransom of $1billion was first asked for along with her daughter's (Dr Okonjo-Iweala) resignation. Later on, a ransom of $200million was requested for.

Barely five days after the release of her mother, the Minister addressed a cross-section of the press where she claimed that her mother was kidnapped because of her 'sins'; not paying subsidy money to some indicted oil marketers and her blocking of some money to some components of SURE-P.

The Minister claimed in the statement, "While she (her mum) was in their custody, the kidnappers spent much of the time harassing her. They told her that I must get on the radio and television and announce my resignation.

"When she asked why, they told her it was because I did not pay “Oil subsidy money”. They also said I had blocked payment of money to certain components of the SURE-P programme."

While clarifying these allegations leveled against her by the kidnappers of her mother, Ngozi reinstated that the position of Mr President on indicted oil marketers in the shady subsidy caims remains the same and unchanged.

"For marketers whose transactions are proven to be fraudulent, the position of the Jonathan government is also clear: we cannot and we will not pay. We will not back down on this. We will continue to stand firm," Ngozi firmly and categorically stated

She however said that those cleared by the Aig-Imoukhuede Committee have been getting their payments. "We have been paying all marketers whose claims have been verified by the Aig-Imoukhuede Committee after going through the necessary processes," the Minister clarified.

Villagers flee as Lagos pipeline fire rages

Officials of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps at the scene of a pipeline inferno at Ijeododo in Ijegun, Lagos.
RESIDENTS of Ijeododo in Ijegun, Lagos have fled the community following a pipeline explosion and the inferno in the village, located in Ojo Local Government of the state.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline exploded on Monday night  in the community.
As at 9.15pm on Tuesday, no casualty had been reported in the explosion said to have been caused by suspected pipeline vandals.

Our correspondent gathered the incident might worsen the fuel scarcity in the South-West as the pipeline transports petrol pumped from Atlas Cove.
The NNPC, it was learnt, had discontinued supply of petrol through the line following the explosion. The corporation pumps about 11 million litres of petrol per day through the pipeline.
News Agency of Nigeria reported that fire fighters arrived the scene four hours after the fire started but could not immediately access the area.

The spokesman of National Emergency Management Agency  Mr.  Ibrahim Farinloye, said, “We contacted the fire fighters though they could not get to the scene because of the nature of the area.
“We also contacted officials of the NNPC who have blocked all the outlets, which is why the fire is subsiding.”
Farinloye spoke as residents of  Ijeododo recounted their experiences of the explosion.
Mr. Sunday Obiase, a dispatch rider, told NAN that he was in his wife’s shop when they noticed the fire.
Obiase said when the fire was noticed, people began to flee their homes as its intensity grew.
A landlord, Mr Sabinus Igbozuluke, said, “I gathered my certificates and other important belongings because the fire could get beyond control.”
According to a man, who identified himself as Baba Tunde, the vandals came through FESTAC.
“There is no road from Ijeododo to the site, everywhere is swampy, you can only pass through FESTAC which is closer,” he said.

Another landlord, Mr. Vitalis Ukewui, said such incident occurred in 2011  and left the area in darkness for over seven months.
“Last year, this same thing happened and we were left in darkness for over seven months until we paid some levy,” he said.
He expressed the fear that since the outbreak was more severe than the previous one, it could leave the whole area in darkness.
A spokesperson for the NNPC, Ms. Tumini Green, said there was still fire at the scene of the explosion. But she added that officials of the Pipelines And Products Marketing Company Limited, a subsidiary of the NNPC, were still trying to put out the fire.
She said the activities of vandals, caused the inferno.
“This had always happened, and we have PMS on the line,” she said.
The Chairman, Independent petroleum marketers Association of Nigeria, Western Zone, Mr. Olumide Ogunmade, described the incident as “a bad thing,” that would have an effect on product supply.
According to him, the Ije-Ododo axis is a route to all depots, and the explosion at the line was like cutting off the supply route from Atlas Cove.

He said, “It is serious. It is like going back to square one.
“Government needs to tackle pipeline vandalism holistically. We must not surrender to vandals.
“Government has the resources to fight this. It should set up the machinery needed.”

Yakowa’s body arrives in Kaduna amid tears

Yakowa's body arrives in Kaduna
The remains of the Late Governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Yakowa, and that of his aide and friend, Dauda Tsoho, arrived in Kaduna airport aboard a Nigerian Air Force cargo plane at 2.45pm on Tuesday.
The bodies were received by hundreds of  wailing sympathisers who thronged the airport.
Bodies of the late governor as well as those of other four, out of the six victims of Saturday’s naval helicopter crash in Okorobo, Bayelsa State, had been airlifted from Yenagoa aboard a Nigerian Air Force Super Puma Helicopter marked NAF 567 at 11.45am.
The other bodies that left Yenagoa alongside that of Yakowa and Tsoho were those of an ex-National Security Adviser Gen. Owoye Azazi’s bodyguard, Warrant Officer Mohammed Kamal; and the two naval pilots, Commander Murtala Mohammed Daba, and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole.

The NAF aircraft stopped at the Port Harcourt airport in Rivers State where the bodies were flown to different destinations in different aircrafts.
Yakowa and the four, as well as Azazi, were victims of the crashed Augusta 109 Naval Helicopter in Okoroba, Bayelsa State, on Saturday.
They met their death while returning from the burial of the father of President Goodluck Jonathan’s aide, Oronto Douglas. Douglas is Jonathan’s Adviser on Research, Documentation and Strategy.
The remains of Azazi, an indigene of Bayelsa, were however left in the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for burial on a date yet to be announced by the government.
While the bodies of Yakowa and Tsoho were airlifted from Port Harcourt to Kaduna, those of Daba  and Sowole were taken to their respective home states in Kano and Lagos.

Two black caskets with silver handles bore Yakowa’s and Tsoho’s remains while three brown caskets with golden handles contained the bodies of three others.
The caskets which were covered with the Nigerian flags were accompanied by Bayelsa State Governor  Seriake Dickson; his wife, Rachel; Deputy Governor John Douglas; a former governor of the state, Diepreye Alameiseigha; commissioners and other members of the state executive council.
At the special valedictory session in honour of Yakowa at the Executive Chambers of the Government House before the late governor’s remains departed the state, were also the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Johnson Olutoyin; commanders of the Air Force Mobility Command, the Joint Task Force, and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kingsley Omire, among others.

Dickson poured encomiums on the late Yakowa, describing him as a bridge builder and humble governor.
Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, including the aides of the late Yakowa, attended the ceremony.
Dickson, who said Yakowa died in active service, added that his death should encourage people to live in peace and harmony.

In Kaduna, children, women as well as men wailed as the delegation from Bayelsa State, led by Alamieseigha, formally handed over the corpses of Yakowa and his aide to top Kaduna State government functionaries.
At the Kaduna airport to receive the corpses were the new Governor of the state, Mukhtar Yero; Yakowa’s widow, Amina; Senator Danjuma Goje; Senator Bola Saraki; and top state functionaries.
The Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna Diocese, Archbishop Matthew Man Oso Ndagoso; and the Catholic Bishop of Zaria, Rev George Jonathan Dodo, took turns to pray for the remains of the late governor and his aide before the caskets were transferred into an Hilux ambulance.
From the airport, the two golden caskets were driven in a motorcade through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Bypass to the Saint Gerard Catholic Hospital where the corpses were deposited in the mortuary.
The Senate President, David Mark, in company with his wife, Helen, was at the St. Gerard Hospital. He later proceeded to the Government House to pay condolence to Yakowa’s family.
The late governor is expected to be buried on Thursday in his home town, Fadan Kagoma in Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, one of the soldiers that moved the bodies of  Yakowa and the others from the morgue into the helicopter slumped shortly after the assignment, thus causing panic and anxiety among those at the venue.
The state medical team however revived the soldier, whose name could not be ascertained, several minutes after.

The collapsed soldier was among the two groups of soldiers who took turns to lift the caskets bearing the bodies of the victims into the Air Force helicopter.

Each group, under the command of a parade commander, was made up of six soldiers.
The collapsed soldier who apparently was exhausted after the assignment slumped and was immediately rushed into an ambulance belonging to the Nigerian Air Force Mobility Command at 10.40am.
The ambulance consequently rushed the soldier to the Government House Medical Centre, where a medical team  battled to revive him.

Principal quizzed for conducting virginity tests on pupils

The school’s entrance.
Principal, Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, Rev. Olufunke Oladeojobi, has been quizzed by the police for allegedly conducting virginity tests on the pupils.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Oladeojobi, who was described as a strict disciplinarian, by her pupils called in a nurse and jointly carried out virginity tests on a group of 10 students last week Monday.
It was further learnt that the principal did not seek the consent of the parents/guardians of the pupils before conducting the test on Senior Secondary School 1 pupils.

During the test, it was alleged that the principal and the nurse whose name could not be ascertained allegedly dipped their fingers into the pupils’ private parts.
After the exercise, which took place at the principal’s office, each of the pupils was given an exercise book.
A 15-year-old pupil, who identified herself simply as Ayo, said the principal came into the classroom on the day and announced that all female SSS 1 pupils should converge on the assembly ground.
She said the principal subsequently asked that those who had yet to lose their virginity should stand apart.

Ayo said, “We are over 600 in SSS 1 but only about 300 of us are females. Those of us that are virgins are 38 and we were matched into the principal’s office with the assistance of members of staff.
“They subsequently divided us into three groups of 10, 15 and 13 and I was in the second group. The principal later addressed us and threatened that any pupil who fails the test would have her name written in the school’s black book and would be suspended.”
Ayo said she became apprehensive when everyone who emerged from the office where the test was being carried out came out with a sad and disgusting look.

She said, “When my class captain emerged from the room, I asked her why anyone that came out of the office looked depressed? I was held spell bound when she told me that the principal and the nurse dipped their fingers in turns into their private parts, adding that she had started bleeding as a result of the penetration.
“Just as I was asking further questions from her, the principal dashed out of her office and announced that she had discovered one student who had lost her virginity out of the 10 students that were examined.
“She wrote her name on one of the notice boards in her office and ordered the rest of us to return to our various classes. Two of my friends who had similar experiences burst into tears as they narrated what happened.”

Thirteen-year-old SSS I pupil of the school, identified simply as Ujunwa,   said the principal was happy  that she was able to “catch a promiscuous pupil” as she felt proud to discuss it on the assembly ground the next day.
She, however, added that her joyous moments was soon short-lived when the parents of the 10 pupils stormed the school in protest against the development.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the pupils rebelled against Oladeojobi last Wednesday as they did a sit-in on the assembly ground protesting and demanding that she should be redeployed from the school.
It was gathered that it was the teachers’ intervention that calmed the pupils.
Ujunwa said, “The parents of the girl that was said to have lost her virginity who happens to be a member of the Press Club and the other nine parents besieged the school last Tuesday and Wednesday and queried our principal for conducting such an unauthorised test on their children.
“The parents then came with policemen attached to the Ajuwon Police Division where they had reported the incident on Thursday and arrested our principal.”

When our correspondent visited the school on Tuesday, the school had closed for the term while Oladeojobi’s office was shut. Her telephone rang out while a text message sent to her phone was not responded to.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajuwon Division, Mr. Waheed Yusuf, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He said the investigation into the matter was still “ongoing” and declined further comment until “investigations were concluded.”

But, a policeman attached to the station who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Oladeojobi owned up to the incident.
He said, “She confessed that she conducted virginity tests on the pupils and that ‘she was trying to help them.’ We took her in for questioning on Thursday and Friday but she was not detained as my superiors were taking into consideration that she is a civil servant.
“We might have some problems if she (Oladeojobi) is to be charged to court for sexual assault because the matter was reported to the police late and no medical examination was immediately done on the affected pupils to use as a proof in the law court.”

Naeto C Fights Blogger At DJ Neptune's Wedding In Lagos

For those who witnessed this show of shame by popular Nigerian rapper, Naetochuckwu Chikwe otherwise known as Naeto C, at the wedding reception of DJ Neptunes, formerly with Raypower FM, held at the City Hall, Lagos Island, surprise and eyesore were words they used in describing how the son of a former Aviation Minister, Kema Chikwe descended himself low like a street urchin.

Eyewitnesses described Naeto C to as the popular Oshodi area boys especially with the way he reportedly torn the cloth of a popular blogger with Sturvs Media identified as Lewis Grant, who is the Vice President, Business Development, Sturvs Media Ltd.

As the gist goes, Lewis was said to have mistakenly stepped on Nicole Chukwueke, Naeto C's wife's dress, who was standing right behind Lewis along with her husband, Naeto C while he (Lewis) was taking pictures of DJ Neptunes and his wife at the reception. Probably to show to his wife how caring he is and how he can fight for her, Naeto C was reported to have pushed Lewis and commanded him to get away from his presence.

The eyewitness, said that Lewis reportedly told Naeto C not to command him like a boy. This statement by Lewis to Naeto C landed him (Lewis) a 'special gold medal'; 'a hot slap' on his face.

One of the eyewitnesses also said  that Naeto C didn't stop there as he reportedly took his fight with this blogger further by tearing Lewis' shirt. Soon, some military men reportedly joined in giving Lewis the beating of his life until one of Lewis' aunties at the party intervened.

The military men barred people from taking pictures while Naeto C was busy flexing his muscles with Lewis just like how one of the Klitschko brothers dealt with Samuel Peters.

A source who spoke to Ramsey after the death rumour about him said the actor is in Abuja while Timi Dakolo went on twitter to announce "God saved me."

President Jonathan, Nigeria Navy Confirm Crash, Offer Details About Helicopter Crash

It was a harvest of tragedy on Saturday as Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State, the immediate national security adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, and four others were killed in a military helicopter crash at Okoroba Village in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Others involved in the accident were Yakowa’s Special Adviser, Dauda Tsoho; Azazi’s bodyguard, Warrant Officer Mohammed Kamal and two Naval pilots, Commander Murtala Mohammed Daba and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole.
The victims were returning to Port Harcourt after they attended the funeral ceremony of late Mr. Tamunoobebara Douglas, the father of the Presidential Adviser on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto Douglas, when the incident happened.
They were said to have been badly burnt and only identified by the shreds of their clothes.
Azazi and Yakowa’s mobile phones rang out continually without any response when several calls were put across to them by some top government officials.
Our correspondent gathered that the naval helicopter was heading for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, but developed a fault and crashed in the village, which also shares a boundary with Nembe Local Government Area.
The Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Kabir Aliyu, confirmed that a Nigerian Navy helicopter was involved in the crash which occurred around 3:30pm.
Aliyu who was silent on the identities of those involved in the crash said a rescue operation comprising personnel of the Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield, the Navy, the Nigerian Air Force and the National Emergency Management Agency, were at work in Bayelsa.
Our correspondent further gathered that the former Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Timi Alaibe, narrowly escaped the crash.
A police source who pleaded anonymity said he was scheduled to board the helicopter but that there was a last minute change in the schedule.
The source said, “Two helicopters took off at the same time. After sometime, we saw the one behind us wobbling and nosediving into the swamp.
“The helicopter took off and was already stabilised on air. It had gained balance and started flying but unfortunately it came crashing.
“We are not suspecting any sabotage because the burial ground was well policed. There were gunboats surrounding the place and many security operatives at the burial ground.”

The former Chairman of the Okoroba Community Development Committee, Mr. Hitler Adunion, was the first person to locate the site of the incident.
Adunion said “We sighted the chopper wobbling and crash-landing. By the time we got to the scene, the helicopter was in flames. We tried to put out the flame but it was difficult. We saw the roasted bodies of those inside it.”

Around 7pm on Saturday, NEMA said it had activated its search and rescue team.
“NEMA has activated its search and rescue team in collaboration with other response agencies at the crash site,” Yushau Shuaib of NEMA headquarters was quoted as saying.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the incident.
The Secretary to the Kaduna State government, Mr. Lawal Abdullahi on Saturday night also confirmed Yakowa’s death.

He said, “Yakowa on Thursday presented a budget to the state House of Assembly. His last official engagement was his visit to the Barau Dikko Specialists Hospital.”
The air crash came  barely two months after the Governor of Taraba State, Mr. Danbaba Suntai, was critically injured in a similar crash in Adamawa State with his two aides.

The governor is currently receiving medical attention in Germany.

Daniel Ademinokan speaks on Doris and stella Aboderin

Popular movie director, bass guitarist and script writer, Daniel Ademinokan talks about his divorce from Doris Simeon, relationship with Stella Damasus and his foray into clothing business

It’s already a year that you lost your dad. How has it been?

One thing I will tell you is that I have missed my dad’s stubbornness. He was a very firm and hardworking man. He was full of humour; no matter how bad things are, he’d calm things down with a joke. I didn’t have a strong relationship with my dad until the latter years of his life.

You will be launching your clothing line, Code 55, tomorrow. What should people expect?

It is a one-stop shop. I expect the business to mature so that I can get money. I invested money in it. I’m not a guy who sees himself as being just a filmmaker. I try to do as many things as possible. The building itself houses all the things we do. When we launch Code 55, people can just walk into the boutique and buy anything they want, but they should also know that the building is called Index Two Plaza. Inside the plaza is Code 55, Index Two Studio, a rehearsal studio I just set up. It is currently the biggest studio, where musicians can come to rehearse with their live band, in Abuja. I have a music recording studio and my film production house there as well. You can record your music video and everything you want there and, of course, we have offices there. So, when we open the place officially, I expect the place to make a big mark and pray that God will bless the work of our hands.

We named the clothing line Code 55 because you have to really sit down before you understand us. People say there is a mystery about me and they say the same thing about Stella. But trust me, may be you have to buy a decoder before you can decode who we are. For the 55, I was born 31 July and Stella is 24 April. If you add 31 and 24, you will get 55.

There have been many speculations about what caused your divorce from Doris Simeon. Can you clear the air?

People will always blab about what they know and what they don’t know. Doris and I have remained friends. We have a child between us and the most important thing we should focus on is the wellbeing of the young boy. I’m a human being, so I am entitled to have my own emotions and and issues. But people should learn to mind their business. Bankers and other professionals go for divorce, but you will never see it on the pages of the newspapers. Doris and I have retained our friendship. In fact, I just spoke to her few hours ago, so we talk all the time. Whenever there is something we need to discuss, we do that. We have moved on with our lives. Let people keep talking while Doris and Daniel continue to make their money. As far as I’m concerned, Nigeria has bigger problems that we all need to focus on. We have issues of oil, flood, kidnapping, Boko Haram and all that. We have the Niger Delta and amnesty issues to deal with. I’m surprised people are still busy talking about whose home is breaking up and whose home is not breaking up. As far as I’m concerned, Doris is living her life happily and I’m living my life happily, too. Our son is happy and we talk from time to time. Life is about ups and downs. People get married and get separated for reasons best known to them, so they should let us breathe.

There were rumours that Doris accused Stella of snatching you?

Who did Doris say that to? Whoever is saying that should come out to claim that Doris actually said so. People should leave Doris and Stella alone. The people saying these things have bigger problems. Some of them have one and half legs and then they will sit in one place to be fabricating stories.

Perhaps people are speculating because of the business relationship between you and Stella?

They are free to say anything; my personal issue is my personal issue. In fact, if people are looking for stories, tell them that Daniel and Stella now have 24 children. Also tell them that we have bought 24 houses in Abuja and hoping to buy 17 more in America. Let them keep talking.

Okay, let’s talk about the movie industry. What is your assessment?

The movie industry has come a long way and I believe that we are getting better. I always say that there are two sets of filmmakers in Nigeria. We have developmental films and commercial films. We have those who refused to move with time-they are still shooting movies with N700, 000 and N1 million. Such movies actually have shorter life spans. It is either you choose to grow or stay in one place. There are now some intelligent filmmakers, who are actually moving further. The industry is structured in a way that those who are making good films have continued in that direction. If you look at people like Izu Ojukwu, Kunle Afolayan, Amaka Igwe and even the people from Ghana, they have strived hard to put their money where their mouth is in making good movies. But now, the return on their investments is where the big question mark is. There is no proper structure on how to recoup investment in the industry; that is where the big problem is. There are people who can raise money to make the films, but how can the money come back to the investor? That is the problem. That is why I’m delving into other businesses, so that when I make my movies and the profits are not coming, there should be other things that will bring money to me. We have to be honest with ourselves; people are not really making money from movies.

For instance, if you invest N50 million and I take it to the cinemas, whatever I make from there, the cinemas take 50 percent immediately and the distributor will take 10 percent. So, what is left for me? Besides, I will still pay my tax. What will come to me at the end of the day will not be more than N10 or N15 million. Many filmmakers spending a lot of money are not making it back. Those who are doing it are doing it for the sake of passion. We don’t know the power of merchandising in Nigeria. Look at a film like Jenifa, some Igbo guys did Jenifa slippers and were selling it in Tejuosho Market and a dime didn’t go to Funke Akindele, producer of the film. Somebody also made Jenifa umbrella, but the money didn’t go to Funke. What I’m saying is that if your movie makes N10 million in the cinemas, you can even make more than that from merchandising. That is why I won’t even blame the people making cheap films in Alaba.

How do you think this problem can be solved?

Honestly, it is a tough question to answer. This is because a lot of practitioners have sat on this issue all to no avail. Unless we have a true distribution channel in Nigeria, it won’t work. We need a distribution channel that is not in the hands of a few people. And until distribution channel is properly controlled, filmmakers will continue to go hungry. Look at all the veterans, they are dying. They are poor, no pension, nothing. Until we can control distribution and there is a policy to hold people liable when things go wrong, actors will continue to live in penury.

How true is it that the Ghanaian movie industry now has more quality than its Nigerian counterpart?

I won’t lie to you. If you go to the US now, most of the films people watch are from Ghana. The Ghanaians spend money on their films and the filmmakers know exactly what they are doing and their environment is more conducive for the job. Who are the directors in Ghana? They are Nigerians: Paschal Amanfo and Frank Jaja. These guys were here, but were not doing it well. They went to Ghana and, because the environment there is more conducive, they are making it. Though they still have crappy films over there too, their films are generally better than what we have in Nigeria.

You recently shot a film in Cameroun. What was the experience like?

It was a great experience for me. Stella and I actually went to Cameroun in September to train some young actors, writers and producers. After the training, we made a short film for them. Then, their industry people begged us to shoot a major film for them. We used the actors we trained for the film. We shot the film, Unspoken, and it will be released in Cameroun sometimes next year.

Cameroun is a francophone country. How did you cope as an English-speaking person?

It’s a francophone country, but they speak English there as well. We also got help from a few Nigerians there. We actually got an interpreter at a time. It was quite challenging anyway, but at the end of the day, the movie came out better than what we expected.

Out of the many films you have directed, which one will you describe as the best?

Honestly, I believe that my best is yet to come. I have directed many films, but I still see them as stepping stones to where I’m going to. But if I want to choose among the ones I have directed, I will say it is Unwanted Guest, which I shot in New York. I had white people as crew members and Katung of Big Brother Africa was in it. Seeing the kind of response the film got at cinemas was quite interesting.

As a director, what is your strength?

My strength is in God. Recently, my mum came to Abuja on a visit and she was always telling me not to kill myself because I was like a crazy man. I don’t sleep. The problem I have is that I don’t know how to sleep. I don’t drink, smoke or go to clubs, but the energy is just there naturally. So, my strength is God. Also, when I look at my son and see how interested he is in what I am doing, it keeps me going.

How did your journey in the movie industry start?

As a kid, I was a TV addict. There was no TV programme that I didn’t know of. I was fascinated by how people entertained me. My life was like a triangle: I read books, watched TV and went to church. So, in the secondary school, I started writing scripts for producers. I would go to to meet producers. I can remember Teco Benson bought some of my scripts; Chuks Obiora and the rest, too. Later, I realised that I was more interested in bringing some of those scripts I wrote to life. At times, I wrote scripts for some producers and when they came out, they didn’t look like what I wrote. So, I said instead of these producers messing my scripts up, I can make use of them myself. That was why I started training, following people up and down and studying some directors. Eventually, I went to America to study film production and directing.

You and Stella flew actor Enebeli Elebuwa to Abuja some months back for medical treatment, but he died some days back. How did you feel about his death?

It is very painful, but it is a shame that most people abandoned him when he was ill. Now that he is dead, people are pouring accolades on him. I actually don’t want to talk about this because I can be confrontational. Let’s just remember the man for the good job that he did and pray for his soul to rest in peace.

Jim Iyke, Nadia Buari Throw Christmas Party For Abandoned, Orphaned Uganda Children

Top Nigerian actor, Jim Iyke, has continued to prove a point clear that his 'bad boy' tag he has had to endure with for a long time now is nothing but a gimmick in the make-believe world of Nollywood. Thanks to his present media manager that is working endlessly to also help prove that Jim Iyke in real life is different from the Jim Iyke in movies.

The multi-award winning star, entrepreneur, model and philanthropist, who is currently on a charity tour of Central Africa, recently visited the Naguru Reception Centre for Children, Kampala, Uganda. The centre is a home for Uganda's orphaned and abandoned children.

Jim Iyke was accompanied by Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buhari, and her mum. Unlike most children from such homes, who have very little to be cheerful about especially in a season such as Christmas, the Nollywood hard man together with his sexy counterpart from Accra, Ghana, shed their glamorous pre-occupations to put smile on the faces of the forlorn.

The Real Me Show: Omosexy Goofs

Today's episode of Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde where she showcased her trip to Ghana with her hubby and second son, Michael, has scored the show low

She explained that she works with the best hands in the industry, there is nothing absolutely wrong in working with the best stylist, make-over artiste, photographer etc.

But, it's highly ridiculous to call Kelechi Amadi-Obi, the best photographer in Nigeria, that sounds too demeaning to the entire Professional Photographers Association Of Nigeria. Kelechi Amadi-Obi, no doubt, is a good photographer and has done well to keep his standard but calling him the Best in Nigeria is arguable.

Nigeria is blessed with the likes of Sunmi Smart-Coles, Stevens of this world to mention a few who are veteran photographers, these are best hands in the industry and one can not really mention a particular name as The Best as Omotola put it.

Soundcity's Presenter, Juliet Mgborukwe Romances Married Actor, Paul Sambo after her crashed marriage

Hardly would a month go without a case of an actress or two running after the destruction of another woman's home by warming another woman's husband's bed. Those in the showbiz world in Nigeria are gradually dying in silence as they don't know what to do about some Nollywood actresses who flock around married men all for money in order to keep to the 'status' the media have projected them to have.

Nollywood's up and coming actress, Juliet Chidinma Mgborukwe, who is also a TV presenter with Soundcity with her TV programme called 'Village Square, is in a hot romance with Nollywood handsome married actor, Paul Sambo. Few months ago, the marriage of Juliet crashed.

Juliet and Paul were recently on a movie set in Enugu which had a top actress (name withheld) on the same movie set. Both, as information at our disposal revealed, were love items during the movie shoot produced and directed by a promising movie producer and director (name also withheld).

It was reliably gathered  that Juliet, who made the love pass at Paul, became engrossed in her love infatuation with Paul that she almost forgot that people were around watching her love moves. At the end of each day's shoot, both always retire first at Paul's car before having a nice time with each other.

A source close to Juliet's Lagos home also said that Juliet and Paul even took their affair to the former's Lagos home where they both hanged out to have a good time together.

Juliet, who is a History and International Relations graduate of the Lagos State University, got engaged to her former lover, Chima Ojukwu, in 2011 and went ahead to have a traditional wedding with him in December 2011 but the union broke in 2012, where she alleged her former hubby of severally beating her. Now, sources claimed she is engaged to another man who she is planning to get married to soon.

Paul on his part, is said to have a wife, Lami Daniel, who he got married to in March 2012.
