La Liga club, Espanyol, sack Coach Mauricio Pochettino over poor performance

La Liga outfit Espanyol have sacked coach Mauricio Pochettino following the club’s defeat against Getafe on Sunday.

The home loss left Espanyol sitting bottom of the table with just nine points from 13 games and only two wins so far this season, Inside Futbol reports.

The Barcelona-based club last won on November 4, when they came away with a 1-0 victory from a trip to Real Sociedad.

Since then however, Espanyol have suffered defeats against Osasuna (3-0), Valencia (2-1) and Getafe (2-0).

Pochettino was appointed Espanyol coach in 2009, his first job in management.

A former central defender, the Argentine enjoyed two playing stints at the club, the first from 1994 until 2000 and the second from 2004 until 2006, when he helped the side to win the Copa del Rey.

Last season he led the Catalan club to a finish of 14th in La Liga, while in 2010/11, Espanyol managed the lofty finish of eighth.
