Man hides cannabis in auto parts

Chibuike Chukwu

Chibuike Chukwu, a 30yr-old trader, was recently apprehended at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, after 1.070kg of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis was discovered inside car shock absorbers in his luggage.
The discovery was made by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency during a routine check as Chukwu was about to board an Ethiopian Airline flight to China.
Chuwku, who has a dual citizenship of Nigeria and Guinea, was travelling with a Guinean passport No. R0175813 under the name of Bah Ibrahim. A native of Enugu State, Chuwku  was married to a Guinean lady and had a child.
He said, “The auto parts were given to me by a friend to take to China. He told me to assist him in taking the parts to China as samples. Unfortunately, they found drugs inside the parts.”
NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar, confirming the arrest, said, “The drug was detected during routine search based on suspicion. When the officers painstakingly conducted a search on his luggage, the drug was found hidden inside the auto parts.”
The chairman of the agency, Ahmadu Giade however expressed concern about the fact that the suspect was taking the drugs to China where many drug offenders are on the death row.

He said, “I am happy that the suspect was detected here by our officers, otherwise he would have faced the death penalty in China.”
