The National Hajj Commission on Sunday resumed the airlift of Muslim pilgrims from different states to Saudi Arabia for this year’s hajj.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 60,000 pilgrims were airlifted from Lagos, Niger, Kaduna and Sokoto states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The resumption of hajj operations follows a diplomatic spat between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia over the detention and deportation of over 1000 Nigerian female pilgrims by Saudi authorities for allegedly failing to be accompanied by male companions for the exercise.
The commission had suspended the airlift for a few days to enable officials from both countries to sort out the issue.
