Nigeria Picks Last Medal, As Paralympic Games End .

IYIAZI Eucheria has picked Team Nigeria’s final medal, a bronze, in the Women’s Shot Put - F57/58 in one of yesterday’s event as the London 2012 Paralympic Games ended.

The defending champion finished with a throw of 11.11m to finished third behind Ortiz Hernandez Angeles of Mexico who won gold with a throw of 11. 43 and Bulgaria’s Eneva Stela, who won the silver with a throw of 11.38.

The 35-year-old Iyiazi also got 997 points for the feat and will also smile home with 2500 dollars, which some of her mates got from the NSC, after their events.

The Secretary General of Para Athletics, Bola Adedeji, commended Iyiazi for winning the medal despite hoping to defend her title.

“It is not a bad performance though I had thought she would defend the title she won in Beijing.   But a bronze is better than coming home empty-handed.”

Iyiazi joined 12 members of the powerlifting team to win medals at this games.

After 11 days of action, the closing ceremony of London 2012 Paralympic Games will today highlight the achievements of athletes as well as the handover from one Host City to the next.

London will hand over to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Paralympic Games. The ceremony also features the extinguishing of the Paralympic Flame, signalling the end of the Games.

It will also provide an opportunity for the world to view the artistic expression of Artistic Director Kim Gavin, his team and the culture of Host City and the UK.

Just like the opening ceremony, there are certain elements that must feature as outlined in the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Charter.   The artistic performance of the ceremony then gets underway and celebrates the success of the Games.

Coldplay have been announced as the star act of the London 2012 Paralympic Games closing ceremony.
The ceremony, called ‘Festival of Flame’, will see the band perform a live, one-off concert in the Olympic Stadium, broadcast to an estimated potential worldwide audience of 750 million.

Coldplay have sold over 55 million records worldwide, scored number one albums in more than 35 countries and have won seven Brit Awards and seven Grammy Awards.
