Parents beg Lagos teachers to shelve strike

Parents of pupils in public schools in Lagos State have appealed to teachers in the employment of the state government not to embark on strike on Monday as they threatened.
The parents made the appeal in interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lagos.
They said that although the teachers had a good reason to embark on the strike, they should explore other ways of pressing home their demands for the sake of pupils and students.
NAN reports that the teachers are planning to go on strike to protest the government failure to implement the Teachers Salary Scale approved in 2008.
The TSS means a 27.5 per cent increase in teachers’ salaries.
Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mr. Samson Idowu, noted that 17 states had implemented the TSS, and expressed dissatisfaction that Lagos State had yet to effect the payment.
